If you’ve ever considered using Botox to improve facial signs of aging, you’ve invariably heard countless rumors surrounding the procedure. “I’m afraid Botox will make my face frozen,” “I heard Botox will make me addicted to it,” “Botox is toxic,” and so on.

The truth is that Botox is a generally safe and effective way to treat signs of aging. It’s also FDA-approved for both cosmetic use and for alleviating certain medical conditions like migraines.

So, without further ado, we thought we’d delve a little deeper and debunk the top 5 myths about Botox.

Myth 1: Botox is a toxic, dangerous substance.

It’s true that Botox is derived from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin A, but by the time its ready for use, it is a purified form approved by the FDA for facial enhancement procedures. The dose that is injected is small enough to relax only the target muscles that cause wrinkles and deep creases.

Myth 2: Botox injections are very painful.

There is a bit of discomfort during the injections, but it’s not an unbearable amount. A lot of patients have compared the sensation to a mosquito bite

Myth 3: Botox is addictive, once you start, you can’t stop.

This is a pure misconception. Botox doesn’t have any addictive substances. Many of our patients return because they’re happy with their results, not because they’re addicted.

Myth 4: Botox will freeze your face and make you lose your facial expressions.

This is a big concern for a lot of patients, and we can understand why they feel that way, but we assure you that this is not the case. Botox injections will relax the muscles that cause wrinkles but we only inject the areas you’re concerned with so you can still retain your facial expressions, but you’ll have less lines to show for it.

Myth 5: Once you stop getting Botox injections, your wrinkles will get worse.

After the Botox wears off, your previous wrinkles will come back, but Botox does not make them worse. If you notice increased facial lines, it may be nothing more than the natural aging process.
