WHAT ARE WRINKLE RELAXERS?
Wrinkle Relaxers (like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) are neurotoxins produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum… also called botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin has been cleared as a safe and effective therapeutic protein when proper dosage, frequency of treatment, and administration by an experienced, licensed professional occurs. Botox arrives in a highly concentrated form that is diluted by the provider to become a safe and potent injectable. It is injected into the desired muscle where it begins to take effect, blocking nerve transmissions and effectively freezing the area. The injected muscle can no longer contract, causing the wrinkles to relax and soften. In proactive cases, if a muscle is inactivated before it pulls the skin, you can prevent new wrinkles from forming. Botox isn’t just for wrinkles and can be used to treat a variety of conditions like migraines, certain muscular disorders, and overactive sweat glands.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
When the botulinum toxin protein stops functioning, it is broken down into amino acids and released from the body. On average, Botox lasts 3-4 months depending on the dosage, size and strength of the injected muscle, and the body’s unique metabolism.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
When done wrong, Botox can produce a variety of symptoms from droopiness and heaviness to botulism type symptoms…explaining why it’s important to always choose a reputable practitioner over a bargain.
IS THERE AFTERCARE?
Botox only stays where it was injected, as long as proper aftercare is followed and no manual manipulation occurs. Clients are asked to wait 2 weeks before facials, massages, and other activities that could potentially cause impact or pressure to the face or injected area. For the most part, clients are encouraged to resume their daily activities after a treatment.
WILL I BRUISE OR SWELL?
Clients can expect minor swelling and redness that typically dissipates in less than an hour and in some cases, minor bruising that lasts up to a few days.
